This is my library room.  I designed it with a hidden actor scare, and a bookshelf exit door.  I wanted to make my room look more detailed so I took some Ideas from Kevin McCurdy and it didn't turn out to bad for my first attempt.

I will try to demonstrate how I did this and the little effort it took to do.  I completed this room in approx 2 hours total work time.  Yes it could have been more perfect but I am limited on time due to my daughters illness.

     Lets get started:

Supplies:

  • Pre fabricated walls.
  • Paint - 1 Color for the top (your choice) and a brown for the bottom, black paint, and a color for your stencils.
  • Stencil
  • 1X3 enough to go around your room

Lets Get Started...

You need to  measure three feet up from the bottom and draw a line this will be the dividing line for the room split.

Paint the top your chosen color then paint the bottom brown.

Cut your 1X3 to length.  Remember that they need to be the length of each wall so you can dismantle it at the end of the season.

Router the edge of the 1X3 how ever you want ant then paint a lighter/darker brown the bottom of the walls.

Take a straight edge and measure out a line every 6" all the way around room.

Take a foam brush and put your straight edge on your marked off lines and paint along the edge.  Try to keep this a consistent line in width all the way around the room.

By eye hold up your stencil in between each vertical line and with your foam brush paint your stencil on the move down and repeat until you reach the brown divider.

Now attach your 1X3.

Paint the black lines on the bottom is even easier than the stencil.  Since your upper lines are 6" apart every 2 hold up your straight edge and with your foam brush paint a black line down the length of the brown.  So now you have a black line every 12"

You can highlight the black with white find your light source and paint a thin white line down the side of the black line opposite of your light source.

Here is the walls with some of the stenciling.

Here is the stencil I bought from Wal-Mart for .99.

This wall is the back of another room, I continued the design

to continue the theme.  Since it will be to the back of the victims it is not

as necessary to be perfect.

The design is continued into the corners and here is some stripes without

center stencil.

You need to continue the design above the book shelves as well

to keep the continuity of the room.

This shows the two tone paint with out decorative 1X3 and

black stripes.

This is a close up of the routered edge of the 1X3 to add to the realism.

This is the panel with 1X3 added and no black stripes

to show slats on the bottom kinda plain ehh.

I left the design around the mirror plain to offset and make it stand out.

Here is the hidden actor scare, this was an old medicine cabinet

I found at the goodwill for 50% off at 5.00.  I cut the back out and

mounted it to the wall to make a great scare.

Here are the book shelves I made and faux books to go on them,

they look more real under mood lighting.

Here is the completed design see how I used he stencil to offset the

mirror, looks pretty cool huh?

Here is the completed room.
