This is a hidden panel I made for a mausoleum room I designed.  I will be placing a coffin in the room with a mannequin it as my distracter. When our victims enter they will be focused on the coffin waiting for something to happen, then out of our main villains grave marker will pop an actor scaring the whoo-ha out of them.

Supplies:

Pre fabricated wall (mine is made out of ¾” OSB and 2X4s).

Some chain (heavy duty mine is rated at 600lbs breaking strength)

4 - Eye lag bolts (self threading).

4 - Chain couplers.

Several lengths of 2X4s.

1 – Handle

1 – Cupboard magnate holder.

2 Heavy duty hinges

  • Build your mausoleum panels (see how to build by clicking mausoleum how to link)
  • With a saws all cut out the center of one tomb marker staying as close to the edge of the 1X3.
  • Attach heavy duty hinges to the bottom of cut out.
  • Take off, or place hinges prior to placing bottom 1X3 on face of mausoleum then re-attach, or put 1X3 in place.
  • The 2X4s on the top and bottom of panel are for reinforcement of the hinges and chain lag bolts
  • Take a small block of wood and attach cupboard magnate to help hold door closed when not in use.
  • Paint the back of door black to hide wood and ruin illusion.
  • Attach handle to upper 2X4 for actor to use to close door after scare
  • Open door and measure chain needed for the door to fully open.
  • Put Eye lags into wood evenly spaced out so as the actor can reach in between and are able to grab at your victims.
  • The chain needs to stop door when it is flat( this is important so you don’t wreck the 1X3 on the front decoration)
  • The chain and sudden stop makes a great noise and adds to scare.

Here is the completed panel.
